Students at James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School had the unique opportunity to take part in Junior Achievement (JA) Central Ontario’s Financial Literacy Program, an interactive workshop designed to empower young people with real-world money management skills and financial confidence.

Led by JA volunteers from Scotiabank’s Anti-Money Laundering and Real Estate teams, the session brought real-life financial concepts into the classroom in a dynamic and engaging way. Grade 9 Mathematics students explored essential topics such as budgeting, saving, responsible spending, credit management, and goal setting, all through hands-on activities and discussions that connected classroom learning to practical life situations.

The workshop aligns perfectly with McGuigan’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for life beyond high school. Many students expressed enthusiasm about learning how to manage their finances, make informed decisions, and better understand how money works in everyday life.

This initiative was especially meaningful, as November marks Financial Literacy Month, highlighting the importance of helping students develop lifelong financial skills.

This was an experience that will serve students well as they continue their academic and personal journeys.
