James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School is proudly celebrating two of our High Performance Athletics (HPA) student-athletes, who are making their mark on the international soccer stage. Grade 11 students O'Mario W. and Edwin O. recently represented their national teams at the CONCACAF U17 World Cup qualifiers and showcased their elite talent and the strength of JCM’s HPA program.
O'Mario competed for Team Jamaica while Edwin represented Team Canada. Both athletes are among the top young soccer players, and their participation reflects years of hard work, discipline, and commitment in the classroom and on the field.
Both student-athletes are also part of Toronto FC. O'Mario plays for the Toronto FC Academy and Edwin plays for TFC II, which highlights the high-level development opportunities connected to JCM’s HPA program.
A memorable moment came on February 11 when Jamaica faced Canada in a highly anticipated qualifier match. The game featured the two JCM and TFC teammates competing against each other, with O'Mario getting the upper hand as Jamaica defeated Canada to secure qualification for next year’s FIFA U17 World Cup.
Both student-athletes are proudly representing their countries on the international stage and are making JCM and the entire Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) very proud. Their success reflects the commitment of the HPA program to developing student-athletes who excel in both academics and athletics.
As they continue their journeys, O'Mario and Edwin shine as outstanding ambassadors for their school, their communities, and the future of the sport.
