James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School is proud to celebrate a historic milestone as High Performance Athletics (HPA) student Elijah R. has officially signed his first professional soccer contract with SK Sturm Graz in Austria.
For Elijah, this moment represents the realization of a lifelong dream, one built on years of dedication, discipline, and passion for the game.
“Going pro has been my ultimate goal,” he shared. “I didn’t expect it so soon.”
Elijah played and scored Canada's first goal at the U17 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Elijah’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. His recent performances on the international stage accelerated his path to the professional ranks, opening doors that quickly turned into life changing opportunities.
“One of which is signing my first professional contract with SK Sturm Graz,” Elijah said. “I haven’t come down from the clouds yet.”
Still, the momentum has not slowed.
After signing his first professional contract with SK Sturm Graz, Elijah has continued his incredible rise by earning a call up to Canada Soccer Men’s National Team camp as a practice player as preparations begin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Next up, Elijah heads to France with Canada’s U20 National Team for the prestigious Maurice Revello Tournament, further showcasing his talent on the international stage.
Despite the excitement and well earned recognition, Elijah remains grounded and focused on continued growth.
“At present, I am working on perfecting my position so that once I integrate into the team, the transition will be seamless,” he explained.
From local fields to the global stage, Elijah’s journey reflects the very best of the JCM HPA program hard work, perseverance, and excellence. His achievements continue to inspire the next generation of student-athletes. "I want to thank everyone at JCM for all the support and guidance they provided me. In particular, Mr. Bisceglia for always being in my corner."
From our school to the professional ranks and international stage, your journey continues to inspire the next generation of Canadians. We are incredibly proud of you, Elijah.
As he prepares to begin his professional career in Austria and represent Canada abroad, one thing is certain this is only the beginning.
