James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic Secondary School's High Performance Athletics (HPA) Program is proud to celebrate another incredible milestone as student-athlete Edwin “Eddy” O. represents Canada on the international stage.

Edwin has been called up to the Canada Men's U-17 (Under-17) National Team and is representing his country at the 2026 UEFA Friendship Cup in Nyon, Switzerland.

Canada Soccer officially named Edwin to its 2026 Men's U-17 National Team squad for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Friendship Cup, alongside players representing clubs and academies from Canada and Europe. Edwin is listed as a defender and currently plays with the Toronto FC Academy. On September 30, Edwin and Canada take on Spain in the final Group B match of the tournament.

The Latest JCM HPA Soccer Player to Represent Canada

Edwin is the latest JCM HPA soccer player to earn the opportunity to represent Canada, continuing an impressive tradition of JCM student-athletes competing at the highest levels of the sport. His achievement follows in the footsteps of fellow JCM HPA soccer standout Elijah R., who has also represented Canada at the youth international level. Canada Soccer's current U-17 player pool lists both Edwin and Elijah R among its defenders, highlighting the continued pathway from JCM HPA to Canada's national soccer programs. For JCM, Edwin's selection represents more than an individual accomplishment. It is another example of what can happen when talented student-athletes are provided with the opportunity, support and environment to pursue excellence both academically and athletically.

From JCM to the International Stage

The JCM High Performance Athletics Program was created to provide student-athletes with an environment where they can develop their athletic abilities while continuing their education. Edwin's journey is a powerful example of that vision. From the halls of James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School to representing Canada, Edwin is showing what is possible when dedication, talent and opportunity come together.

Congratulations, Edwin! The entire JCM Wolfpack is proud of you and will be cheering you on as you represent JCM, Toronto and Canada on the international stage.
