Mother Cabrini Catholic School embraced the joy and energy of the Carnaval season with a vibrant, school‑wide French initiative led by Core French teacher Mme Al‑Dahr. With the unwavering support of Educational Assistants Dasha Blehman Araujo, Patricia Kapel, and Lisa Mondelli, students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 participated in an authentic, hands-on celebration of French language and culture.

At the heart of the event was a unique leadership opportunity for our Grade 8 students. Inspired by the popular Chef à l’école workshops, Grade 8 leaders guided each class through a French baking experience, teaching younger students how to prepare languettes de chat. The activity brought French vocabulary, procedural language, and cultural traditions to life in a delicious and memorable way.

This initiative showcased a rich, action‑oriented approach to French as a Second Language learning. Mme Al‑Dahr’s vision and dedication created an environment where all students could experience French beyond the classroom, demonstrating how language learning flourishes when the whole school community is engaged. After the baking workshop, students rotated through a series of Carnaval‑ and winter‑themed games and activity centres, continuing the celebration with movement, teamwork, and plenty of laughter.

Bravo, tout le monde for a joyful, community‑building celebration of French learning at Mother Cabrini. This initiative reflects the power of collaboration, leadership, and cultural appreciation—values that continue to shape our school community.
