The students of Monsignor Percy Johnson Catholic Secondary School proudly showcased their acting and production talents in the first Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) Cops and Kids production of The Lion King Jr. MPJ’s talented Dramatic Arts students used their skills to engage in this community theatre production, and were thrilled to be part of such an exciting opportunity.
Throughout the year, the students worked incredibly hard to bring this successful production to life for the community. The entire production was executed by Monsignor Percy Johnson students, including the principal actors, supporting actors, wardrobe team, makeup artists, lighting crew, sound technicians, and stage management team. From the outstanding performances on stage to the highly organized backstage and technical crews, students impressed audiences with their extraordinary dedication, professionalism, and talent.
Through weekly rehearsals from September to May, students spent countless long hours practicing, rehearsing, and preparing for the production. Throughout this journey, they formed deep bonds with one another and truly became a theatre company, supporting and encouraging each other both on and off the stage.
The production received overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents, students, community members, and staff, all of whom praised the energy, creativity, and professionalism displayed throughout each performance.
Under the leadership of Vice-Principals Claudia Escobar and Joseph Lisi, The Lion King Jr. captivated audiences across five performances: Opening Night on May 6, two student matinees on May 6 and 7, the Gala Performance on May 7, and Closing Night on May 8.
