Monsignor Percy Johnson Nurtures the FLAME Through Threads of Eden

Monsignor Percy Johnson (MPJ) Catholic Secondary School came alive as FLAME 2026 transformed the runway into a vibrant “Garden of Eden,” where beauty, culture, resilience, and self-expression flourished unapologetically.

This year’s theme, "Threads of Eden," was an interwoven tapestry of fashion, faith, justice, and hope, bringing storytelling and social consciousness to the runway. Each thread honoured heritage, affirmed identity, and celebrated student pride.

From the first model’s entrance, FLAME 2026 made clear it was more than a fashion show; it was a platform for voice, vision, and transformation. Students, staff, and MPJ/FLAME alumni collaborated to deliver a showcase grounded in technical excellence and powerful storytelling. Garments reflected cultural pride, healing, and joy, transforming the runway into a space of artistic expression and empowerment.

FLAME was a sold-out event, highlighting the leadership of student executives across sales, marketing, administration, logistics, tech/sound, stage, photography, media, graphic design, wardrobe, and production. The talent within MPJ’s Hairstyling and Aesthetics program was also showcased through runway-inspired updo styling and makeup design, demonstrating industry-level skill and a commitment to using beauty as a form of expression and change.

“FLAME is about more than what we wear,” one student shared. “It’s about who we are, where we come from, our values, the confidence instilled in us, and how we choose to show up in the world.”

FLAME 2026 also reflected a strong sense of community, bringing together educators, parents, alumni, mentors, Catholic Student Leadership (CSLIT), Toronto Secondary Unit (TSU), Toronto Elementary Catholic Teachers (TECT), Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) senior staff, retired staff, and local partners in support of student success. The result was a space where students were seen and celebrated for their authenticity.

As the presentation concluded and the audience applauded, one message remained clear: Rexdale is defined by brilliance, beauty, creativity, community, and possibility.

FLAME 2026 did more than showcase fashion; it revealed a community in full bloom.

The organizers extended their gratitude to all MPJ and TCDSB staff sponsors whose support helped make the event a success.
