Guidance and Student Services
Welcome to Neil McNeil Catholic High School’s Guidance and Student Services Department.
How Can We Help?
Student Development: Students will learn to set and achieve learning goals, to take responsibility for their own learning, and to understand how they learn best. Assistance with study skills, time management, problem solving, and course selection will help in this process. Student Services maintains up-to-date information on school to work transition, apprenticeship, colleges, universities and scholarship opportunities.
Interpersonal Development: Interacting positively with others in a variety of situations both within and beyond the school is an important part of student development. Counsellors act as a liaison on behalf of students, offering assistance and support with peers, teachers, parents, and when necessary, community agencies.
Career Exploration and Planning: Students are strongly encouraged to begin career exploration as soon as possible so that they will be informed and able to make appropriate choices. We encourage students to be active participants in their academic planning and provide them with the tools to make informed choices in order to succeed in life after high school. A Career Studies course offered in Grade 10 is a mandatory graduation requirement.

Drop in to Guidance for the join code.
Course Selection and Course Change Requests
Students are advised to choose their courses carefully each year. It is very difficult, and often impossible to change courses once scheduling has been completed. Course selections authorized by student and parent signatures are viewed as firm commitments for the entire year.
In order to change a course, students must fill out the Guidance Appointment Request Form and follow the schedule they were given until any changes are made. Course changes may be considered within the first two weeks of the semester based on priority sequence (missing compulsory courses, missing prerequisite courses, graduation or post secondary requirements)
Any requests submitted after this window are subject to Vice Principal/Principal approval. Students in Grades 9-11 are expected to maintain a full course load of 8 courses. Students in Grade 12 must maintain a minimum course load of 3 courses per semester, regardless of their overall credit accumulation.
