Last week, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School welcomed Jason Donio, TCDSB Indigenous Cultural Liaison, who led students in learning about Canada’s national summer sport, lacrosse. Mr. Donio worked with students in Grades 3–8, offering engaging presentations and hands-on workshops that explored the game’s Indigenous origins, cultural significance, and historical role as a traditional way to settle disputes, where the outcome of the game determined the final decision.
These sessions enriched the school’s Physical Education program and provided students with a meaningful opportunity to learn through Indigenous perspectives. Miigwetch (thank you) to Mr. Donio and Prescilla Martino, Health and Physical Education teacher, for organizing this enriching experience for the Our Lady of Lourdes school community.
