Adults watching someone give a presentation

On Tuesday, February 3, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School hosted a Parent Math Night with Dr. Cathy Marks Krpan from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto.

This special event explored how mathematics is taught in Grades K-5 in Ontario and provided practical ways families can joyfully support rich mathematical thinking at home. Topics discussed included memorization vs. conceptual understanding, mental math strategies, and the value of number talks.

Dr. Krpan's presentation helped families understand the why behind the math to develop their child’s confidence for problem solving and real-world application. By engaging our parent community, together we continue to build partnerships that improve outcomes for all learners.
