Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic School has been named a recipient of the 2025 Innovative Exemplary Practice Award by the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) for its outstanding efforts in fostering an inclusive school environment that celebrates diversity and promotes equity.
Central to this achievement is the work of the school’s Equity and African Black Heritage Committee, a collaborative group of staff and students who led a series of engaging, school-wide initiatives. Through thoughtfully designed events and activities, the committee created opportunities for meaningful dialogue about cultural diversity, systemic racism, and equity within the learning environment.
These events not only highlighted and honoured the lived experiences of various communities but also encouraged students and staff to actively learn about the importance of dismantling systemic barriers to inclusion. The initiative empowered participants to engage in courageous conversations, promote awareness, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the importance of equity and anti-racism.
By aligning with the TCDSB’s Equity Action Plan, Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic School has demonstrated how representative and culturally responsive educational experiences can enrich the academic and personal growth of all students. This recognition affirms the school taking a leadership role in highlighting the similarities between equity and inclusion and Catholic social teaching.
