The Reading Buddies program was a pilot program initiated by Ms. Bartolini, a Teacher-Librarian at St. Basil-the-Great College School, to promote literacy for all levels of learners in the school. Ten consistent volunteers, including International Baccalaureate (IB) junior program students and English Language Learner (ELL) students, joined the program and have been reading seasonal books to Ms. Beletic's and Ms. Rizzardo-Freitas' ME/DD classes during their lunch break.
The program has been a great success and is now entering the second semester, where Reading Buddies have now ventured into working on activities and conversation skills with the students once the books have been read. But perhaps the most important part of the program has been the opportunity to make new reading friends!
