St. Cecilia Catholic School is celebrating a unique collaboration aimed at fostering environmental consciousness among our students and the wider community. Our school recently partnered with the Stream of Dreams Fish on Fences program to create a stunning mural along the fence facing Annette Street. The mural, made up of wooden fish painted by each student, serves as both a celebration of student creativity and a reminder of the importance of protecting local fish habitats.
The initiative was designed to raise awareness about the local watershed and the impact that storm drains can have on these ecosystems. Through the Fish on Fences program, students were given the opportunity to learn about the environmental challenges faced by local fish populations and how human activities, such as storm drain runoff, can harm their habitats.
Each student contributed by painting a unique wooden fish, resulting in a colorful and lively installation that now graces the school's fence. The project not only provides an opportunity for hands-on learning but also encourages students to think critically about environmental stewardship and sustainability.
The mural, which is now visible to passersby along Annette Street, serves as a lasting reminder of the collective responsibility to protect local ecosystems. The mural will hopefully guide the local community to consider how their daily actions, especially those related to waste and water use, can impact the health of local watersheds and the wildlife that depends on them.
With this installation, St. Cecilia Catholic School hopes to inspire further discussions around environmental conservation and create a lasting symbol of the school's commitment to fostering environmental awareness in the next generation.
