St. Cecilia Catholic School's Eco Team has officially achieved Platinum Certification, the highest level of recognition through the EcoSchools program. After earning Gold Status for the past two years, the school’s dedicated students, staff, and families worked together to elevate their environmental initiatives and strengthen the community’s commitment to sustainability.

Throughout the year, the Eco Team led a variety of projects designed to increase awareness of energy conservation, waste reduction, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. Students took an active role in promoting responsible environmental practices both within the school and beyond. Some of the school’s key initiatives included their successful Boomerang Lunch program, which encouraged students to reduce lunch waste by bringing home any uneaten food and packaging; participation in the Fish on Fences Project to raise awareness about plastic pollution in local waterways; and a community battery collection drive in partnership with the local community centre to ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste.

The Eco Team also continued its partnership with TerraCycle by collecting used writing instruments and fruit pouches that would otherwise end up in landfills. Students helped maintain and grow the school food garden, learning about sustainable food production while contributing to a greener school environment. Additional activities throughout the year focused on energy conservation, litter reduction, outdoor learning, and environmental education.

This Platinum achievement is a testament to the dedication, leadership, and environmental responsibility demonstrated by St. Cecilia’s students, staff, and families. Together, the St. Cecilia community has shown that small actions can make a meaningful impact. School staff are incredibly proud of the St. Cecilia Eco Team and look forward to continuing the journey as environmental leaders in the years ahead.
