Dress Code

Appropriate Dress Code

The Toronto Catholic District School Board began to implement an Appropriate Dress Code in September 2010.

The Appropriate Dress Code consists of any combination of white and navy blue garments (e.g., plan white tops, navy blue bottoms, navy blue tops and bottoms).

Appropriate Dress Code garments may be purchased at any retailer (e.g., Wal-Mart, Sears, The Bay, Zellers, The Gap, Old Navy) and they could include any of the following: shorts, skirts, dresses, pants, Capri pants, golf shirts, blouses, dress shirts and t-shirts.

Garments that do not comply with Appropriate Dress Code include denim, tank tops, thin shoulder straps, short shorts or skirts, shirts with slogans or designer/team logos and flip flops.

All students are encouraged to follow the Appropriate Dress Code. By September 2011, all students in the Toronto Catholic District School Board will be expected to wear garments that successfully adhere to the Appropriate Dress Code.

What are the advantages of the Appropriate Dress Code?

  • Promotes inclusiveness and equality

  • Promotes Catholic school identity

  • Is economical

  • Eases transitions from elementary school to secondary school as students will already be accustomed to wearing uniforms

Dress Code in TCDSB Schools

All Elementary schools within the jurisdiction of the Board shall adopt an Appropriate Dress Code or Uniform Dress Code.

All Secondary schools within the jurisdiction of the Board shall adopt a Uniform Dress Code.

Parents are encouraged to review the local dress code at their child’s school and to direct their questions to the principal of the school.
