Students in the primary division at St. John Vianney Catholic School recently participated in a meaningful cultural learning experience led by Mr. J. Donio from the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s (TCDSB) Indigenous Education Department.
During the visit, Mr. Donio guided students through a lesson on Indigenous dot art while also introducing them to the Grandfather Teachings, a set of traditional Indigenous values that emphasize wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, and truth.
Following the discussion, students in Grades 1 through 3 created their own colourful dot art masterpieces, applying both creativity and the lessons they learned throughout the session.
The student artwork will be displayed throughout the school in recognition of National Indigenous History Month this June throughout the TCDSB, celebrating Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contributions while encouraging continued learning and reflection within the St. John Vianney school community.
