Students at St. Malachy Catholic School marked Orange Shirt Day and Truth and Reconciliation Day with a school-wide display centred on the message that "Every Child Matters."
Each class was given a puzzle piece shaped as part of a heart and asked to create a representation of belonging and inclusion. The individual pieces were then assembled into one large heart and displayed at the school’s front entrance for students, staff and the wider community to reflect on. Students and staff also gathered outside to raise the flag and commemorate the children who experienced residential schools, including those who did not return home.
The activities provided an opportunity for the St. Malachy school community to reflect on the importance of belonging, inclusion and remembering the experiences of residential school survivors and the children who died while attending these schools.
