In a thrilling display of skill and innovation, the St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy's FIRST Robotics Team, known as the SMT Titans – the ‘Tita’ BOTS (Team 6140), emerged victorious at the Ontario District Humber College Championships held from March 18th to 20th. Their exceptional performance not only secured them a prestigious ranking but also earned them a coveted spot in the upcoming 2024 FIRST Provincial Championships at the International Centre from April 3rd to April 6th.

During a recent District qualifier event at Centennial College from March 8th to 10th, the team was honored with the esteemed FIRST Quality Award, recognizing their machine's robustness in concept and fabrication. This accolade serves as a testament to the team's unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation.

This latest triumph marks the SMT 'Tita' BOTS' third gold medal win in the past 5 years, following previous Championship victories at the Ontario District-York University in 2018 and 2019. Their consistent success underscores the team's dedication and exceptional skill in the realm of robotics.

The students' tireless efforts over the last 5 weeks of the team's Build Season, coupled with the invaluable support from a mechatronics engineer/mentor, have been instrumental in achieving this remarkable feat. Furthermore, the collaborative efforts with Team 6975 - the Neil McNeil’s Brotherhood BOTS, who provide remote assistance during the Robotics Season, have played a pivotal role in the team's success.

Established in 2007 under the mentorship of the University of Toronto NSBE Collegiate Chapter, the SMT/STEM/Robotics Afterschool Program has been dedicated to inspiring students within the school community and nurturing their interest in STEM programming. With the initiation of the school’s FRC Team - 6140 in November 2015, the team has witnessed significant growth and success since its rookie debut in 2016. Alumni members of Team 6140 have gone on to pursue various programs in STEM fields, including Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, and electrical trade, highlighting the enduring impact of the program on students' academic and professional endeavors.
