About Us

Never regret a day in your life. Good days give you happiness and bad days give you experience.

Ugo Rossi, Former Chaminade College Principal

At Chaminade College School, we foster the concept of the community and the Christian family. We celebrate our multiculturalism, our common membership in the human family, and speak of the brotherhood among our students and graduates.

Our Namesake

Blessed William Chaminade was born in France in 1761 and ordained as a priest in 1785. After the start of the French Revolution, Chaminade moved to Bordeaux where he became an enemy of the state by refusing to take an oath affirming secular values and disclaiming the authority of the Roman Catholic Church. He fled to Spain where he grew in his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In 1816, he founded the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate. A year later, he founded the Society of Mary at Bordeaux. Chaminade died in 1850 in Bordeaux. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on September 3, 2000.

Our Crest and Motto

Chaminade Crest logo

Our school crest is the pictorial essay of our raison d'etre. "Fortes in Fide" - "Strong in Faith" is our school motto. We must have a deep faith in our Church and in our country.

  • The Church is symbolized by the Archdiocesan coat of arms (top left section in the crest).

  • Our civil authority is represented by the Maple Leaf which encourages us to become loyal, cultured and intelligent citizens of Canada (top right section in crest).

  • MA represents the first to letters of Mary who is the special patron of the Christian Brothers and the Marianists who opened and first staffed the school. Lilies and roses represent the virtues of innocence and charity that we should preserve in our hearts.

  • The total is tied by the cross, which represents Christ in whom we breathe, move and live, and from whom comes all things, and who is our one and last end.

Our Gryphon Logo

The Gryphon is a fabulous mythological creature endowed with the fierce body of a lion, the majestic head and wings of an eagle, and a powerful back clothed in feathers. The Gryphon has become Chaminade's mascot because it symbolizes the union between strength, courage, and vigilance, keeps plunders at a distance, and punishes those driven by human greed.
