Attendance Procedures

There is a clear correlation between attendance and student success. Students who attend class regularly tend to perform better academically. Our school hours are from 8:35 AM to 2:35 PM.

Attendance is mandatory for each class during the school year. If a student is unable to attend a class during the day, a parent/guardian must report the absence through the SafeArrival system or by providing a note to the school’s attendance office. Attendance procedures can also be found on the MySchoolDayApp.

SafeArrival

The SafeArrival system of reporting absences has been implemented at our school and will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, making it easy for you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unreported student absences. The SafeArrival feature is available within the SchoolMessenger app.

With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using one of three convenient methods:

  1. Mobile device: Download and install the SchoolMessenger App. The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance, and then Report an Absence.

  2. Website: Use the SchoolMessenger website. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance, and then Report an Absence.

  3. Phone: Call the toll-free number 1-833-251-3286 to report an absence using the automated phone system.

These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Further absences can be reported at any time, up to a maximum of 10 consecutive days. It is important to note that, when setting up your account, you must register using the email address and phone number associated with your child’s student record.

In addition, the school will use SchoolMessenger’s automated notification system to contact any parent/guardian whose child is absent if the absence was not reported in advance. The automated notification system will attempt to contact parents/guardians at multiple contact points until a reason is submitted for the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, office staff will follow up. If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website, or SchoolMessenger app, you will not receive these notifications.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to set up a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to prevent improper reporting of absences.

Late Arrivals and Signing In/Out Procedures

  • Students must be in class for Period 1 no later than 8:35 AM.

  • Students arriving late for school (8:45 AM or later) must go to their lockers to put away coats, etc., and be in full uniform before reporting to the attendance office to obtain an admit-to-class slip. Students arriving late prior to 8:45 AM must report directly to their Period 1 class and will be marked late by their Period 1 teacher.

  • Students arriving or leaving during the day are required to sign in/out at the attendance office, even if a parent/guardian has reported the sign-in/out.

Truancy

  • First Truancy: The student will be warned by the subject teacher and evaluated accordingly. The student may also be directed to the main office to speak to an administrator.

  • Second Truancy: A conference/meeting will be held with the Vice Principal, parent/guardian, and student.

  • Subsequent Truancies: Consequences, including possible suspension, will be determined by Administration.

SchoolMessenger PIN Instructions

Parents/guardians may assign their own 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) to an individual student through the SchoolMessenger app. This provides an additional layer of security and prevents students from reporting their own absences. Multiple parents/guardians connected to the same student can share and use the same PIN, or they can set their own individual PINs for the same student.

For instructions on how to set up a PIN for a student on the mobile app or website, please visit the SchoolMessenger page.
