The St. Benedict Catholic Elementary School community gathered at Saint Benedict Catholic Parish to celebrate its first Holy Mass of the 2026-27 school year, bringing students and staff together in prayer, thanksgiving and reflection.
The Mass, led by Fr. Steve, marked the beginning of another school year centred on faith, learning and community. In his homily, Fr. Steve encouraged students to pause and reflect on God's goodness and greatness. The school community was also invited to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the significance of the Eucharist.
This year's celebration also included a school-wide consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an observance intended to bring the school community closer to Christ and place faith at the centre of school life. Through the consecration, students and staff dedicated their academic, spiritual and personal efforts to God as they begin the new school year and continue their faith journey.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a symbol of Christ's love, mercy and peace. The St. Benedict community prayed that those qualities would guide students, inspire staff, strengthen families and remain central to the school throughout the 2026-27 academic year.
The celebration also coincided with the school's reflection on Thanksgiving and the virtue of gratitude. Students and staff gave thanks for their families, friends, teachers and classmates, as well as for the opportunity to be part of a caring and faith-filled community.
The school community was encouraged to recognize God's goodness in both significant blessings and the small moments of everyday life. The celebration concluded with a prayer that the Sacred Heart of Jesus would remain a source of love, hope and peace for the St. Benedict school family throughout the year.
“Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Thine.”
