Guidance and Student Success
Our guidance services offer a wide range of activities and programs, most of which focus on career development, educational planning, and personal counselling.
Below is a list of some of the activities and programs provided by our Guidance Department.
Career Planning
Career exploration is a continuous journey that helps students discover their interests, strengths, and future opportunities. It focuses on developing skills, understanding educational requirements, exploring training options, and learning about various career paths.
Students can access career information in several ways:
Through a career program in the computer lab
On the Internet
By attending sessions with guest speakers
In addition, students are encouraged to visit the Career Room, located in the Guidance Office. This space offers a wide range of resources, including:
Print materials
Computer programs
Videos
Post-secondary calendars
These tools are designed to support students in making informed decisions about their future.
Educational Planning
At the beginning of semester two, students are asked to select their course options for the next school year. To support this process, guidance counsellors visit each homeroom class to distribute option sheets and course calendars. During these visits, they also provide important information about educational planning for both high school and post-secondary pathways.
To further assist students and their families, a Grade 8 Information Night is held each fall. This event is designed to help students and parents make informed decisions when choosing a high school.
Post-Secondary Application Process
In the fall, visits from college and university representatives are arranged to give students insight into post-secondary options. These sessions provide valuable information about programs, admissions, and campus life.
A Post-Secondary Information Night for both parents and students is held in February. This event helps families better understand the application process and make informed decisions.
To further support students, application sessions are organized to assist with decision-making and the completion of college and university applications.
Scholarship and Award Planning
Potential recipients of scholarships and awards are encouraged to maintain strong academic standing, develop leadership skills, and demonstrate a meaningful commitment to both school and community activities. These qualities reflect the values that many awards aim to recognize and reward.
Counselling and Referrals
Counsellors are available to support students with any problems or concerns they may have. Whether the issue is academic, personal, or social, students are encouraged to seek help.
When appropriate, students may also be referred to other school board professionals or to outside agencies for additional support and resources.
