On May 24, 2025, Chaminade College School made history by becoming the first school from Toronto—and the first in the TCDSB—to win the prestigious 12 Volt Electric Vehicle Challenge, hosted annually by the University of Waterloo.

This event challenges students to design, build, and race their own electric go-karts, adhering to strict design and safety regulations, and powered by a single battery for a 70-minute endurance race. The objective is not speed, but to complete the most laps within the time limit.

Now in its fifth year, Chaminade’s EV program took a bold step this season. Starting in late October, students dedicated themselves to building a brand-new car with a renewed vision.

Competing against 24 teams from across Ontario and one from Calgary, Chaminade remained in the top three for most of the race. In a thrilling final push, drivers Simon V. and Sean N. reclaimed lost ground and surged into the lead during the last five minutes, clinching Chaminade’s first-ever championship title in the competition.

We are immensely proud of our students for their perseverance, innovation, and outstanding teamwork. Congratulations to the entire EV Challenge Team on this historic and inspiring achievement!

A heartfelt recognition goes to the full team for their dedication and commitment throughout the year: Dom G., Victor C., Nathan R., Keiiran A., David O., Ethan M., Tyler M., Sami M., Marco D., Sebastian A., Adrian F., Michael N., Simon V., Sean N., Victor C., and Alex N. Your efforts have brought great pride to the Chaminade family.
