We are thrilled to share some exciting news: Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School's "Carr Elite" dance team placed 2nd and brought home a $300 cash prize at this evening’s Afro-Caribbean Dance to Your Heart’s Content Competition!
This is a remarkable achievement, especially considering the team assembled a brand-new routine in under a month—welcoming eight new members, including two male students with no formal dance training. (Wooo!)
A special shoutout goes to Joy A., our dedicated team captain, for choreographing the routine and showing incredible leadership as always. We are also grateful to alumnus Brandin McEwan for returning to support the performance in a small role, and to Jodesy C. and Anthony F. for stepping up and embracing the challenge of joining the team with enthusiasm and heart. What began as a spark of curiosity turned into a true commitment—these students asked questions, pushed themselves, and became an essential part of the team’s success.
Beyond the prize, this competition was an incredible cultural experience. For many of our students, it was a powerful way to connect with their roots, celebrate Afro-Caribbean culture, and express themselves through the art of dance. Their passion, pride, and joy were evident on stage and throughout the journey—it has truly been inspiring to witness in my short time with them.
Thank you to Mrs. Trower, the five students, and several parents who made the trip to cheer us on—your support meant the world. Although this wasn't a Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) event, our one and only JoyGold Goodluck was the emcee of the event, and as always represented FHC proud.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Guliani, Ms. Perri, Mrs. Trower, Mrs. Bentley, and Ms. Plummer for supervising extra rehearsals, and to our administration and secretary teams for your continued support. Your contributions made this memorable experience possible for our dancers.
