NBA star Dillon Brooks is continuing to give back to his roots. He has stepped up once again in a major way to support the basketball program at his high school alma mater, Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School.
This second-year sponsorship goes far beyond a simple donation, it’s a multifaceted partnership that includes financial support, Nike gear, and more. This financial support helps with critical expenses especially with travel costs for participating in U.S. tournaments, which often create a barrier for high school teams.
Dillon Brooks attended Father Henry Carr from 2010 – 2013 where he was coached by Paul Melnik who is credited for helping shape his early development—physically, mentally, and his competitive mindset.
Coach Paul Melnik’s philosophy helped instill competitiveness: Dillon was known for having “fire in his belly,” being intense, physical, always pushing himself.
During his time at Father Henry Carr he led the Father Henry Carr basketball team to three undefeated seasons, won back to back Toronto Catholic Junior Championships (in 2011 and 2012), won the Toronto Catholic Senior Championship, and in 2013, helped FHC earn an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Silver Medal.
As part of giving back, the school has honored Brooks in several ways including a large mural in the school gymnasium that was unveiled during the Dillon Brooks Cup. The school community organized “Dillon Brooks Day”.
In May 2025, Dillon Brooks was recognized by the Toronto Catholic District School Board, as the recipient of the TCDSB Alumni Award.
Father Henry Carr is fortunate and appreciative for Dillon Brooks’ commitment to the school, staff, community at large and going above and beyond to assist young adult reach their dreams.
