From September 24–26, Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School proudly hosted its sixth annual Grade 9 Orientation at YMCA Camp Wanakita. This year, 230 students attended the three-day trip, accompanied by 14 staff members. The experience provides students with a unique opportunity to step outside the classroom and engage in team-building, communal activities, and guided discussions focused on respect, responsibility, and trust. Themes of truth and reconciliation were integrated throughout, allowing students to reflect on their relationships, personal growth, and role within the larger community.
The Camp Wanakita experience supports Father Henry Carr’s core values of Challenge, Lead, Succeed, fostering social, emotional, and spiritual growth for all students. Many participants returned with stronger friendships, a deeper appreciation for their peers, and lasting memories of this milestone in their high school journey.
This year marks the sixth consecutive year that Father Henry Carr has partnered with YMCA Camp Wanakita to offer this program, highlighting the school’s ongoing commitment to providing enriching opportunities beyond academics and athletics. Administrators, staff, and mentors alike continue to demonstrate remarkable dedication, ensuring that the trip remains a highlight of the Grade 9 experience. The school looks forward to continuing this valued partnership in the years ahead.
