Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the annual Dillon Brooks Cup on March 14, 2026 (Saturday).
In 2025, Father Henry Carr's Principal Mr. Malfitano and Prep Basketball Coach Mr. Melnik established the Dillon Brooks Cup, an event in which NBA All-Star Dillon Brooks and his family attended and presented the cup to the winning team. In addition to this, Father Henry Carr honoured Dillon by raising a large poster in our gymnasium commemorating him. His Houston Rockets jersey was also framed and placed in the main school hallway.
The event drew a large number of parents and guardians. Several TCDSB senior staff and stakeholders were also in attendance for the event.
Dillon Brooks is currently having the best performance of his NBA career, with an average of 28.8 points per game and has been recently named the NBA Western Conference player of the game. In October 2025, Father Henry Carr's Prep Basketball program, under Coach and Teacher Paul Melnik returned to the school, and NBA Phoenix Suns star and alumnus Dillon Brooks was the major sponsor.
Dillon provided significant financial contributions to the program, and worked to have the National Basketball Players Association also financially contribute to the program. Dillon’s financial contributions have permitted students from Rexdale and the GTA with the opportunity to compete at the highest level of basketball in Canada at a fraction of the cost. These student-athletes would not be able to do so without Dillon’s contribution.
Dillon's dedication to Father Henry Carr has permitted students with the opportunity to travel to the United States in the hopes of receiving scholarships, access to athletic therapists, and fitness training. Furthermore, Dillon also was able to spearhead a sponsorship with Nike to completely outfit the all Prep Basketball players at Father Henry Carr. His contribution continues annually.
On March 14, Dillon will be in attendance once again for the Dillon Brooks Cup, with possibly several Phoenix Suns players, to present the cup.
