Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School's basketball program returned to the Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association (TDCAA) competition after a short break and immediately returned to its winning ways. The all-Grade 10 Father Henry Carr Junior Team competed in the TDCAA 'AAA' Senior division (Grade 11 and 12), at the highest level of competition.
Playing against athletes two to three years older, the team finished the regular season with one loss and advanced to the TDCAA Finals with dominating victories. In the TDCAA championship game, they defeated the Senator O'Connor Senior Team by a score of 92-78!
Two years ago, newly appointed Principal Mr. Malfitano and the successful Program Director Coach Melnik reignited the dominant Father Henry Carr Basketball program, returning to play in the TDCAA in addition to their PREP programs this year. This year's Father Henry Car Juniors, under the leadership of Coach Falloon, Coach Agyemang and Coach Kamran, are only the second Junior Team to win the Senior TDCAA Basketball title, joining FHC Junior 2020, an accomplishment that is unprecedented in high school sports. Father Henry Carr also facilitated a Freshman Team this year, only composed of Grade 9 players, who competed and reached the Junior TDCAA semi-finals.
The Administration would like to thank FHC alumni and NBA star Dillon Brooks, for his continued sponsorship and support of his beloved high school Coach, Paul Melnik and the FHC basketball program.
Good luck to this Junior Team who will be representing the TDCAA and the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) at the 'AAA' Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships in London next week.
