Students and staff at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School came together this month to recognize Middle Eastern Heritage Month, highlighting the rich cultures, traditions, and lived experiences of communities from the SWANA (South-West Asia and North Africa) region.

Through field trip-related experiences, students explored the history, traditions, and contributions of Middle Eastern communities.

A highlight of the month was a special film screening at the TIFF Lightbox, where FHC students and staff attended Palestine 36, directed by Annemarie Jacir. The film received widespread acclaim, premiering in the Gala Presentations program at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year.

FHC continues to emphasize the importance of cultural awareness and inclusion as part of its Catholic educational mission. By recognizing heritage months and creating spaces for dialogue and learning, the school reinforces its commitment to honouring the diverse identities and experiences that shape its community.

Through initiatives like these, the FHC community strives to ensure that students not only learn about the world around them but also develop empathy, respect, and a deeper appreciation for the cultures that make up their school family.
