The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) Mathematics Department, in partnership with the Catholic Parent Involvement Committee, invites parents and guardians to an in-person Parent Engagement Night focused on making math at home a more positive and productive experience.

Featured Speaker

We are honoured to welcome Dr. Cathy Marks Krpan, a professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, and an award-winning author in mathematics education.

A former classroom teacher, Dr. Marks Krpan works with educators and school systems across North America and internationally to support effective teaching and learning in mathematics. Her publications, including Teaching Math with Meaning and Concept Circle Thinking Routines, focus on empowering all learners to develop deep mathematical understanding. She is also a recipient of the National Margaret Sinclair Award, recognizing innovation and excellence in mathematics education.

About the Session

Families want children to become confident and capable mathematical thinkers, but supporting learning at home can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming, especially when math is taught differently than it was in the past.

During this engaging session, Dr. Marks Krpan will:

  • Explain how mathematics is currently taught in Ontario schools.

  • Share practical, easy-to-use strategies for supporting learning at home.

  • Offer ways to reduce stress and build confidence for both children and families.

While the session is designed for families with children in Kindergarten to Grade 5, all parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
