Congratulations to Elena S., a Grade 10 student at Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School, who won the bronze medal and two scholarships at the 2025 Canada-Wide Science Fair, held at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Elena is passionate about science, particularly in the field of space studies and exploration. Her research project, titled "Martian Kite: Using an Airborne Wind Energy System to Generate Electricity on Mars," involved extensive data collection and rigorous analysis related to innovative energy solutions for future Mars missions.
Elena represented McLuhan at the 2025 Toronto Science Fair, where she was awarded a Gold Medal at the Canada-Wide Science Fair Travel Award. She was selected to represent Ontario at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF). At the national event, she earned the bronze medal and received two entrance scholarships: $1,000 from Western University and $3,000 from Mount Allison University.
Elena's research work and achievements demonstrate her dedication to scientific curiosity, as well as her critical thinking and analytical skills. She describes her experience as: "CWSF was an unforgettable experience, helping me grow personally and academically. One of the most meaningful aspects for me was the chance to network with passionate students from across Canada, each with unique and innovative projects. Exploring their work and sharing ideas expanded my thinking and deepened my appreciation for the scientific community. This opportunity not only strengthened my communication and research skills but also inspired me to continue my journey in science and innovation with greater determination."
