Congratulations to Ruben D. S., a student at Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School, who was named BGC (formerly Boys & Girls Club) Canada’s National Youth of the Year, selected from among four incredible finalists across the country. This national recognition celebrates outstanding young leaders who exemplify the values of service, leadership, and resilience. As the winner, Ruben receives a $10,000 scholarship toward post-secondary education, a new laptop, and additional supports to help him continue his journey. The award ceremony was attended by Mayor Olivia Chow and the Minister of Children and Community, Hon. Michael Parsa, highlighting the significance of this achievement.
As Angelo Castillo, Community Director at BGC Weston Mount Dennis & Lawrence Heights Club, said:
"Ruben has been involved with BGC St. Alban’s Club for 10 years—as a member, volunteer, and staff—and I’ve had the privilege of mentoring him since he first joined our summer camp programs. It has been truly inspiring to watch him grow into the confident, compassionate leader he is today.
Ruben speaks with pride about his school community and the opportunities he has had to lead and support others at Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School and the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) as a whole, which is why I wanted to personally share this wonderful achievement with you."
Well done, and best of luck in the future Ruben!
