On September 29, students at Marshall McLuhan had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Carmela Fonbuena, a Filipino journalist who was awarded the 2026 Marshall McLuhan Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism. The fellowship is awarded annually to a recipient who demonstrates outstanding qualities in the field of investigative journalism.
Her lecture, titled Navigating Geopolitics and Global Threats: Journalism's Evolving Role in Preserving Democracy, focused on the role of journalists in the Philippines in defending democracy in the face of political corruption and foreign information manipulation.
Mr. Michael McLuhan, son of Marshall McLuhan, was also in attendance.
