Ms. Venturo's Grade 2/3 class at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School were inspired to creatively explore the land acknowledgment by a visit from Superintendent Roy Fernandes, who suggested breaking down the land acknowledgment line by line to help students truly understand its meaning and importance.
Each day, the students from the class focused on a different line from the land acknowledgment, discussed its significance, connected it to their own lives, and expressed it creatively through art. They have since displayed the land acknowledgment in their hallway so all students at the school can see it and engage with its message.
"I wanted to share this project in hopes that it might inspire other students and schools to explore the land acknowledgment in meaningful and creative ways." - Ms. Venturo
