St. John Henry Newman Catholic High School kicked off the school year with an incredible parent engagement event on September 10, organized by Parent Council leader-chairs Tanya Baksh and Gina Katounas.
The keynote speaker was Karl Subban—a well-known motivational speaker, author, hockey dad, and lifelong educator. With over three decades of experience in parenting, teaching, and leadership, Subban has dedicated his career to helping children reach their full potential. He inspired attendees with his powerful message and later delivered a special presentation for Grade 10 students on the importance of FOCUS.
Subban shared the “three legs of a stool” needed to achieve one’s potential: Dream, Belief, and Action—a message that set the tone for a positive and engaging 2025–2026 school year at Newman.
Families interested in joining the St. John Henry Newman community are invited to attend the Open House on September 30 at 6:30 PM at St. John Henry Newman (100 Brimley Rd.)
