On September 30, we remember the children who were taken to residential schools, the Survivors, their families, and the communities who continue to live with this legacy.

We wear orange because Every Child Matters.

At St. John Henry Newman Catholic High School, we have constructed a Living Tree.

The Living Tree has three parts:

  • Roots - Remembering the Past: Write a word of remembrance to honour children and ancestors.

  • Trunk - Strength and Resilience: Write about strength, courage, or values that hold us together.

  • Branches and Leaves - Growth and Reconciliation: Write a hope, dream, or action for a better future.

Every student in the school has written on an orange leaf a remembrance honouring children and ancestors.

This exhibit will highlight our Grade 8 Open House on September 30 at 6:30 PM (at the St. John Henry Newman school location). We will invite all Grade 8 students who visit to join in our community by writing on an orange leaf for our Living Tree.

On Orange Shirt Day, and every day, let’s remember: Every Child Matters.
