On Thursday, November 27, Health and Wellness students from St. Joseph Morrow Park Catholic Secondary School attended the first Student Program Experience (SPE) offered by the Headsup Concussion Advocacy Network (HeadsupCAN) at the University of Toronto Athletic Centre.
HeadsupCAN, founded in 2017 by Ryan Sutton and Seth Mendelsohn, is a social purpose organization dedicated to raising awareness about concussion prevention and supporting research at the UHN Canadian Concussion Centre. Their mission focuses on sharing lived experiences, promoting education, and providing innovative concussion-focused learning opportunities.
Throughout the day, students participated in workshops centered on personal wellness, goal-setting, and understanding congruence through attention and cognition activities.
During lunch, students heard from Julie and Andrew, two University of Toronto Kinesiology students, who shared their post-secondary journeys and offered valuable insight into navigating the transition from high school to university.
In the afternoon, students explored the Re-Aim Framework—an approach focused on translating research into action—and applied it to develop a creative solution presented to HeadsupCAN instructors.
A special thank you to Ryan Sutton, Seth Mendelsohn, Michael Jorgensen, PhD, and the entire HeadsupCAN team for hosting an engaging and informative day of experiential learning for our students.
