This past Friday, in observance of Lent—a season that calls us to fast, pray, and give—30 students from Romero took part in our 12th THINKfast. THINKfast, a Development and Peace initiative, is a 24-hour fast that also serves as a meaningful fundraiser.
The goal of THINKfast is to bring youth together to learn more about, create awareness for, discuss, and fundraise for social justice issues at local, national, and international levels. This year, we focused on domestic violence, supporting two women’s shelters: Red Door Shelter and Interval House.
During Friday and into the afternoon, the students participated in workshops delivered by Red Door Shelter and Interval House, prayer, as well as cooperative and reflective activities. The students and staff then concluded their fast by sharing a communal meal.
Even prior to the event, the student participants committed also to creating awareness and raising funds, asking friends, family and our St. Oscar Romero community to support their efforts as sponsors. These funds will support the work of Development and Peace, Red Door Shelter and Interval House.
THINKfast also offered students and staff the opportunity to reflect on the example of St. Oscar Romero, whose life was devoted to the pursuit of justice.
