St. Oscar Romero hosted its first annual Grade Nine Alumni Career Event, centered on equity, empowerment, resilience, and mental health. This special morning provided students with an opportunity to explore diverse career pathways and be inspired by Romero alumni.

Students were engaged by the stories and advice shared by Romero graduates Ms. Jaedyn Charles, a TCDSB secondary school teacher; Mr. Edmund Yeboah, an OPP officer; Ms. Corina Picco, a psychology researcher; and Mr. Rowell Ramos, a business entrepreneur in media technology.

Grade 9 students were enthusiastic as the alumni spoke about their personal journeys through high school and post-secondary education, sharing stories of personal growth, overcoming challenges, and encouraging students to consider the many possibilities for their future careers. The event also included an open-mic question-and-answer session.

The event was student-hosted and student-directed, planned in partnership with the Romero Student Chaplaincy and Leadership Team. Feedback forms indicated that the event was a positive and inspiring experience filled with learning and encouragement. The school looks forward to hosting the event again next year.
