Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is a specialized program which allows students to experience a range of customized, career-focused learning opportunities, while working towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students who successfully complete the SHSM requirements will have a special Red Seal embossed on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) when they graduate.

Michael Power - St. Joseph High School offers the SHSM program under the following disciplines: Health & Wellness, Sports, and Justice, Community Safety and Emergency Services (JCSES).

SHSM is a specialized program which allows students to experience a range of customized, career-focused learning opportunities, while working towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Our Health and Wellness SHSM program allows students to develop skills and experience in their preferred sector of focus within the program (e.g., healthcare, fitness, child care and family services).

Our Sports SHSM program gives students the develop industry-specific skills and experience, and prepare for a career in the sports sector through hands-on learning.

Students in the Justice, Community Safety and Emergency Services Specialist High Skills Major program will:

• Gain an understanding of emergency management, the Canadian legal system, psychology and its importance in human relationships

• Develop transferable skills such as leadership, project management, self-defence and other relevant skills

• Participate in opportunities to explore authentic postsecondary education in their chosen pathways

• Network with industry professionals in legal/community safety services, corrections, fire service, law enforcement, paramedic medical services and military services
