Grade 10 students at Notre Dame High School gained valuable insight into their future career possibilities through a dynamic and engaging Ontario Career Lab workshop designed to connect classroom learning with real-world experience.
The interactive session brought together professionals from a diverse range of fields, giving students firsthand exposure to potential career pathways. Presenters included experts in emergency medical services and paramedicine, representatives from Scarborough’s arts community, culinary professionals, and leaders from the non-profit sector. Each speaker shared personal career journeys, industry insights, and practical advice on the education, skills, and perseverance required to succeed in their respective fields.
Students were particularly engaged by the presenters’ ability to connect their real-world experiences to the career exploration work currently underway in their Grade 10 Career Studies course. Through candid discussions, students were encouraged to think critically about their own interests, strengths, and post-secondary options.
By the end of the session, students left feeling both inspired and better informed about the wide range of career opportunities available to them. Staff noted that experiences like the Ontario Career Lab workshop play an essential role in broadening students’ perspectives and supporting informed decision-making as they begin mapping out their futures.
