St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy students from multiple classes (Religion, Arts, French and ISP) worked together collaboratively to collect garbage for the Earth Day Challenge as a demonstration of commitment to our Catholic values and to being Stewards of the Environment.
With the recent passing of Pope Francis, we are reminded of his words about consumerism in a throwaway society: "consumerism has accustomed us to waste". So much of what the students picked up was single use plastics. As the students carried their bags and filled them with waste, the birds chirped reminding us where our true priorities should lie. Trust in God and He will provide all that we need, no more and no less.
With appreciation to our participating students and dedicated staff leaders for their continued commitment to engaging our students in these important experiences of Environmental Stewardship in action.
"Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" -Matthew 6: 26
