Grade 12 students from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy engaged in an Accident Awareness presentation by C.A.D.D.S.S. (Choices—Alcohol—Dangerous—Distracted—Speeding—Seatbelts), designed specifically for students who are graduating high school and planning to attend prom-related events. The program's mission is targeting safety and prevention and supporting students in making healthy, safe choices to prevent tragedies and life-altering events.

Students heard from presenters who have seen firsthand the tragedies that surround serious or fatal motor vehicle collisions. Some of the topics discussed included:

  • How peer pressure and taking risks can end in life altering injuries

  • How alcohol and drugs impact the human body and decision making

  • How distraction by electronics or passengers can turn to tragedy

  • How friends can influence driving habits from speeding to lack of seatbelt use

The goal of the C.A.D.D.S.S. presentation was to inform participants to plan ahead, have fun, and Survive the Day! We are appreciative of the work and ongoing support of the presenters, who are retired or soon-to-be-retired Police Officers who specialized in the investigation of fatal motor vehicle collisions.
