Collage of four photos of presenters at the SJOA event

On May 6, 2025 (Tuesday), the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) Indigenous Education Department and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy hosted an Elementary School outreach event for an awareness of the issue of Missing Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-spirit people.

Indigenous community members and Grade 8 students from our feeder schools St. Albert and St. Maria Goretti Catholic Schools came together for a time of awareness and reflection. Our grade 9 Expressions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Cultures classes contributed art to assist with the learning and time of reflection.

We are grateful to the Indigenous community members who generously shared their knowledge and powerful, moving stories, leaving a lasting impact on all staff and students in attendance.

With appreciation to Vanessa Pinto, Sara Ciarrocchi, Marisa Buffone, our participating elementary school students and staff from St. Albert and St. Maria Goretti, and our Grade 9 student leaders for supporting this event. Our ability to act as allies with the Indigenous peoples in our country and society further developed and grew.
