Mathematics and computing contests are a fun way for students to grow their problem-solving skills, build confidence, and get creative with math and computer science. Designed by teams of expert mathematicians and educators for Grades 9 to 12, the University of Waterloo's Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) contests are a great fit for students across a range of abilities—from learners who want to explore math and computer science and develop their confidence to advanced students who want to stretch their limits.
St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy students are provided valuable engaging opportunities to experience preparing for and writing the CEMC, U of Waterloo math contests. SJOA has been participating in these contests every year for so many years. There is no passing or failing score, but every participant scoring in the top 25% of all competitors receives a Certificate of Distinction. Each School Champion, the top scorer at their school who meets the medal cutoff, receives a Contest Medal.
We proudly acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of our winners of the 2025 mathematics contests at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy:
Kevin B. (Grade 9) - received a school champion medal and a certificate of Distinction
Isla M. (Grade 10) - received a school champion medal
Juan S. (Grade 11) - received a school champion medal and a certificate of Distinction
Bilal S.(Grade 12) - will be rewarded with a medal on the stage at the graduation ceremony
With appreciation to the dedicated Mathematics Department Teachers and Department Head, Mr. Raymond Sarkissian, for their ongoing support of student achievement in mathematics and supporting the mathematics competitions throughout this school year.
