Students from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy took part in a Remembrance Day ceremony at St. Maria Goretti Parish in Scarborough. The Mass was presided over by Father Edwin Galea, pastor, with the homily delivered by Father Elias Chachati, associate pastor, who is pictured in the photo. Also present were eight Sir Knights, including SK Robert Bentley, former District Marshal, SK Michel Lafrance, Faithful Navigator of St. Jean de Brébeuf Assembly #2125, and SK Arturo de Leo, Faithful Navigator of St. Michael the Archangel Assembly #3783. The Grand Knight of St. Maria Goretti Council #13345, Brother Harrison Luis, presented the wreath.
One St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy student read "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae, while another shared an excerpt from "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon. Two students assisted in the wreath-laying ceremony by carrying candles to the altar, and a fifth student managed the PowerPoint presentation and helped bring up the gifts for Communion.
Following the Mass, the participating St. Joan of Arc students joined approximately 50 parishioners in the church foyer for snacks and refreshments.
With appreciation to Father Galea, Father Chachati, St. Maria Goretti Parish parishioners, the Knights of Columbus, our participating students, and Mr. David Gonzalez, St. Joan of Arc Teacher.
