On November 20, 2025, St. Joan of Arc (SJOA) students participated in the annual Safe Schools Symposium, an event that brings together student leaders from across the region to explore how we can continue building welcoming, safe, and inclusive school communities.
Students were especially inspired by keynote speaker Tracy Schmitt, a renowned advocate and athlete who lives as a quadriplegic. She shared a powerful message about perseverance, resilience, and pushing beyond perceived limits. Her story encouraged students to reflect on their own strengths and the importance of supporting one another.
Throughout the day, students took part in workshops focused on cyber safety, learning practical strategies for staying safe and responsible online. They also engaged in discussions on the importance of affirming identity and ensuring that every student feels respected, valued, and included at school.
Our students left the symposium motivated to bring these ideas back to our school community and continue helping make it a place where everyone feels they belong.
With appreciation to our student leaders, staff, and the Safe Schools Department for supporting this valuable student engagement opportunity.
