St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy is pleased to announce that Suyeon K. is the school champion and the 2025 CSMC winner for the Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest in which SJOA students participated in November 2025!
Suyeon received both a medal and a Certificate of Distinction from the University of Waterloo (CEMC). Students earn a Certificate of Distinction for scoring in the top 25% of all contestants across Canada. The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests (CSMC and CIMC) provide challenging math problems for students to enjoy and enhance their problem-solving skills using a mix of short answer and full solution questions.
St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy alumnus, Yamn Chalich, currently a successful Computer Hardware Engineer with multiple degrees, presented the award. Yamn graduated in 2012 and also won the school math contest award in 2012. The photo of him receiving his award 14 years ago is also shown in the background. The school is proud of this success story for our school community, with a school champion giving back to the school community and presenting the award to a current school champion.
With appreciation to Mr. Raymond Sarkissian, Mathematics Department Head, for his ongoing support with student enrichment opportunities in pursuit of academic excellence and to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy teachers and staff who have made a difference in the lives of many students over the years.
