Students from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy recently attended the National STEM Expo at the University of Toronto Scarborough, where they spent the day fully immersed in hands-on learning experiences across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Throughout the event, students explored interactive exhibits and live demonstrations, engaging with university researchers, industry partners, and post-secondary students to learn about real-world applications of STEM. The experience encouraged curiosity as students asked questions, tested ideas, and experimented with new technologies while gaining valuable insight into potential STEM pathways and careers.
A highlight of the day was participation in an interactive workshop led by the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics titled Escape the Museum. During the workshop, students worked collaboratively under time constraints to solve puzzles and challenges using logic, communication, and critical thinking skills. The activity emphasized teamwork, creative problem-solving, and the importance of applying STEM skills beyond the classroom.
The St. Joan of Arc community extends its appreciation to Ms. Belcastro, Mathematics Teacher, for her support and leadership in facilitating this engaging and meaningful experiential learning opportunity for students.
