Test Tips and Information:

The test will consist of three parts: Math, Science, and a written paragraph based on a prompt, article, or other information provided.

  • The test is only ONE of many criteria that the STEAM committee will use to determine acceptance into the program. How a student performs on the test will not necessarily determine a student’s status. Please do not be discouraged or intimidated by the screening test as this may prevent you from being part of a great opportunity and high school experience.

  • Each portion will be approximately 25 minutes.

  • The questions are based on the grade 7 Curriculum.

  • Math. Students may wish to review grade 7 math content. Here are some sample strands that questions may be derived from: patterming/linear relations, algebra, proportional reasoning (ex. percentages, ratios, proportions, fractions), graphing/coordinate systems, integer expressions, operations with fractions, data management.

  • Science. This year’s Science portion will be based on Mixtures and Solutions. Students may want to review the posted material below:

Please visit our STEAM website for more information: https://brebeufcollegesteam.wixsite.com/brebeufsteam

Please note the following procedures for the afternoon.

  • Entry into the building will begin at 3:45 pm for the 4:00 pm Examination.

  • Students are to be dropped off at the East entrance (go left as you reach the end of the driveway) and follow the lead of staff to line up physically distanced on the labeled numbers.

  • Only students writing the test will be allowed into the school after they show the staff their completed Covid 19 passport that is signed and dated for November 5, 2020. (A copy is below. If you are driving, please follow the direction of our staff and park in the East Parking Lot to wait for your child.

  • The STEAM assessment will take place in our atrium, which will allow for physical distancing (Please see attached photo).

  • All students will need to bring a calculator, pen, pencil, eraser, water bottle, mask, personal sanitizer (we will provide as well), and COVID passport for that day (See attached).

  • All students must stay seated in their designated seat during the examination. Please use washrooms prior to arriving at Brebeuf to minimize washroom use.

  • Upon completion of the assessment, all students are required to stay the full 75 minutes and will be dismissed in an orderly and physically distanced manner.

  • If you are not comfortable sending your child to the Entrance Exam on November 5, we will try to accommodate your son. Please email Brebeuf.STEAM@gmail.com if you have any questions.
